I've had a difficult time these past few days receiving insight from God. It happens. Maybe my mind is preoccupied, maybe He's just being silent. Just as soon as I think I have something to write, nothing materializes. I wonder if it's me and yet I know this is only temporary. This morning nothing really struck me again until I read Psalm 46:10. Be still, and know.... That about sums things up.
Again I'm reminded of God's Supreme Authority over all things. We see days coming which appear to be ominous. Government, health care, debt, rising taxes, unemployment. All these things will hit each and every person. But those of us who trust in the Lord are not to be fearful. But I have to admit there occasionally creeps in a little catch in the heart, like a skipping of a beat, or an anxiety in the center of my being. And I have to speak the Word of God to that: "I am Your refuge, your strength, in times of trouble, says the LORD." Even the strongest of my Christians friends report concern.
It takes a lot of faith to believe in the promises of God when we don't see Him. Faith and belief in something we can't see is sometimes harder than trusting in man. Yet we see daily that even man isn't always worth trusting. That's why God has implored us all throughout His Word to trust only in Him. Whether we decide to trust in Him or not, He will be exalted in the nations someday. A day will come when everyone who has pooh-poohed the idea of an Almighty God will know and see.
All I could do this morning was list a handful of Psalms that show who our God was, is and who He will be for those who trust in Him. Since His Word does not return to Him void, these are my declarations for today.
Psalm 18:31 - For who is God, except the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God?
Psalm 47:2 - For the LORD Most High is awesome; He is a great King over all the earth.
Psalm 33:6 - By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.
Psalm 24:1 - The earth is the LORD's, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein.
Psalm 8:1 - O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens!
Psalm 33:8-9 - Let all the earth fear the LORD; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.
Psalm 47:8 - God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne.
Psalm 11:4 - The LORD is in His holy temple, The LORD's throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men.
Psalm 20:7 - Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.
Psalm 46:1 - God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Psalm 18:30 - ... His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.
Psalm 12:6a - The words of the LORD are pure words...
Psalm 36:9 - [And] with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.
Psalm 37:7a - Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him...
Psalm 37:34a - Wait on the LORD, and keep His way, and He shall exalt you to inherit the land....
Psalm 33:10 - The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect.
Psalm 37:34b - When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.
Psalm 9:7a - But the LORD shall endure forever...
Psalm 10:4 - The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts.
Psalm 14:1a - The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God."
Psalm 10:3 - For the wicked boasts of his heart's desire; He blesses the greedy and renounces the LORD.
Psalm 10:6a - He [wicked man] has said in his heart, "I shall not be moved..."
Lord God, continue to strengthen us when our hearts grow fearful over things we have no control over. You are in control of all things and You alone are to be praised for that. You know exactly what is going on and You know exactly what each of us needs. Thank You for Your wisdom. You know what it will take for the world to truly see who You are and what we will have to go through for this to happen. Thank You for being a refuge in our times of trouble, that rock upon which we can stand, the shield that will protect us.
Isn't that maybe the hardest thing to do ... to be still before Him ... when we have so much to say? Thanks for the reminder!
