Pass It On

Yesterday we looked at Psalm 77. Today, in Psalm 78 we see Asaph contemplating, I believe, what he wrote in that Psalm. He wants others to understand. He wants what he knows to be forever passed on from generation to generation. The gist of it is found in verse 4: Telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.

It is the same with us--we need to use our difficulties as a witness of God's faithfulness. It is our testimony, That they may set their hope in God, And not forget the works of God, [and] keep His commandments... (Verse 7) It's not just about the things He has done for us. He will do these things if we heed His commandments. If we are obedient to Him He will bless us. We bless Him, He blesses us. It's a two-way street.

Our testimony is of the miracles of God in our lives--our salvation, the changes He has brought about, the provision. When we forget these things we anger God. We are considered rebellious. We need to remember what He has done. Yet God... He will continue to try to show us what He is able to do, just so we will heed Him that we will not have to incur His anger toward us--for our rebellion. No matter how we turn away He continues in His compassion to draw us back. He remembers we are but flesh (Verse 39). This is not to say that we can say we know and believe and just go about our merry way doing what we want to do. Romans 6:1b-2a tells us: Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not!

Remember, if you are saved, what drew you to Him at that very moment. Remember what you went through, how you felt. Then remember God's love and kindness toward you and what He has done. Don't ever forget. Don't ever stop praising Him. Don't forget He is in the cloud of your troubles. That is part of your obedience. Don't let the enemy of your soul speak lies about Him. Don't be deceived.

God chooses us to follow Him. He rejected some of His own people, allowed them to enter into their own sinful desires. He chose those, however, who never forgot who He was--those dedicated to Him. Let Him guide you. Pass on to family and friends God's faithfulness in your life. Never let the name of God be squelched.

Psalm 78:72 - So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.
