Blessed Are They

Psalm 2:1-12

Why do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying,
"Let us break Their bonds in pieces and cast away Their cords from us."

He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; the LORD shall hold them in derision.
Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, and distress them in His deep displeasure:
"Yet I have set My King on My holy hill of Zion."

"I will declare the decree: the LORD has said to Me, 'You are My Son, today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession.
You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel.'"

Now therefore, be wise, O kings; be instructed, you judges of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindles but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.

Wow, if this isn't a word for us today. For rulers around the world. For anyone who does not actively put their trust in the Lord.

This is a stern warning. Our own country was founded on godly principles. We have strayed so far...
Today The rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against His Anointed... His Anointed is Jesus.

We are promised a day of judgment. Yes, God is good but He will also judge. We must hear both sides of His nature from the pulpits not just what the people want to hear.  Those who seek their own way, whether it is an individual or "ruler" of a nation, will experience His wrath.

This psalm was written well before Jesus (979 BC) but it speaks of God's Son, whom He would give all the nations to as an inheritance. That has come about. He has become our Savior, the One who holds our future in His hand.

As nations or individuals, we either serve God or ourselves or man, rulers/kings. If we do not fear God His anger will be upon us and we will perish. "The Bible tells us so!"

Jesus Christ saves us from God's wrath. Those who serve Him are blessed...not with material wealth but with the knowledge that God is for us and our future is secure. Blessings come in the form of peace, joy, contentment, strength, protection, wisdom, and just knowing who to turn to in times of trouble. Just knowing who He is is not enough. A relationship with Him, allowing Him to change you, desiring to dig into and learn from His Word is what is required.

We cannot just assume we are good in God's eyes. We must know and devote time to knowing more...there is a great reward for doing so. It's a really good thing!

Psalm 34:22 - The LORD redeems the soul of His servants, and none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned.
